Vila Nova de Cacela

Small eastern Algarve town on the N125, known locally for its fish market and Sunday market.

Vila Nova de Cacela is a small town just off the N125 in the eastern Algarve, between Manta Rota and Monte Gordo — well worth a detour if you are passing. The indoor fish market is a treat if you arrive early in the morning. The Red Cafe does good frango (BBQ chicken) with chips and salad, and Chicken George's on the crossroads in the centre is a more traditional local option.

There are plenty of small bars in the centre. The town has a monthly market on a Sunday — try the frango sold with piri piri sauce from the market stalls. A campsite is available for those who want to camp, and the town sits on the main railway line to Faro for connections to the rest of the Algarve.
