The panoramic elevator at Boca do Vento solves a practical problem with considerable elegance: it connects the Cacilhas waterfront to the upper town of Almada without requiring visitors to climb a long, steep hill. The glass-sided car rises about 35 metres in under a minute, and the views during the ascent — across the Tagus to Lisbon, with the Ponte 25 de Abril framing the left side — are excellent.
At the top, a small esplanade provides a platform for looking out over the river and back towards Lisbon. The elevator operates throughout the day and costs only a standard public transport fare with a Viva Viagem card. From the esplanade, it is a short walk to the castle ruins and the Miradouro do Olho de Boi, another viewpoint perched above the old town. The whole area around the elevator top is quiet and unhurried — most visitors who come to Cacilhas for lunch miss it entirely.
