Almada's position in the Lisbon metropolitan area makes it a good base for exploring the region. Lisbon itself is twelve minutes by ferry or twenty minutes by bridge and is the obvious half-day or full-day excursion. Sintra, with its romantic palaces and forested hills, is about forty-five minutes by train from Lisbon's Rossio station. Setúbal, the gateway to the Arrábida Natural Park and its turquoise coves, is around forty minutes by bus from Almada's southern suburbs.
