Getting There

The most pleasant way to reach Almada from Lisbon is the Transtejo ferry from Cais do Sodré to Cacilhas. Ferries run every ten to fifteen minutes throughout the day and take around twelve minutes — the crossing offers good views of the city skyline and the Ponte 25 de Abril. Buy a ticket with your Viva Viagem transport card or pay cash at the terminal.

By road, the Ponte 25 de Abril suspension bridge connects Lisbon directly to Almada; the A2 motorway continues south from there. Driving into Almada is straightforward, but parking near Cristo Rei or the old town can be difficult on weekends. From central Lisbon the drive takes fifteen to twenty-five minutes depending on bridge traffic.

There is no train station in central Almada. The Fertagus commuter rail crosses the Ponte 25 de Abril and stops at Roma-Areeiro, Entrecampos, and Campolide on the Lisbon side, then at Pragal, Corroios, and several stations further south in the Setúbal district — useful if you are heading to the southern suburbs rather than Cacilhas.
