Leiria's football stadium was rebuilt for Euro 2004, when it hosted three group-stage matches. The architect Tomás Taveira gave it a striking yellow-and-blue stand structure that has become a minor landmark on the western edge of town.
The stadium is home to União de Leiria, the local side. Match days draw a few thousand fans rather than the tens of thousands the stadium was built for, but the atmosphere is friendly and tickets are cheap. The exterior is worth a brief look in passing if you are driving by.
