The Praça Rodrigues Lobo is the social heart of Leiria — a rectangular cobbled square with low arcades on three sides, named for the seventeenth-century poet whose statue stands at the centre. It is the obvious place to sit with a coffee in the late afternoon and watch the town go by.
Several of the city's better cafés open onto the arcades, and on summer evenings the square fills with a mix of students from the local polytechnic and families on their evening promenade.
