Casa Fernando Pessoa

Fernando Pessoa lived at Rua Coelho da Rocha 16 in Campo de Ourique from 1920 until his death in 1935, and this apartment — his last — has been preserved and transformed into a small museum dedicated to his life and work. The house displays personal objects, manuscripts, and photographs, and the library reconstruction gives a sense of the isolated, prolific inner life of the writer who created over 70 literary heteronyms.

Pessoa is Portugal's greatest modern writer and one of the central figures of 20th-century literature. The Book of Disquiet, his meandering prose-poem meditation on Lisbon and existence, is the most direct point of entry for new readers. The museum is in the residential Campo de Ourique neighbourhood, a bit off the tourist circuit but worth the tram ride (line 28 passes nearby).
