A science and technology museum occupying one of the pavilions built for Expo 98, the Pavilhão do Conhecimento is firmly hands-on: visitors are encouraged to pedal a bicycle across a high wire, lie on a bed of nails, and work their way through exhibits on physics, mathematics, and the human body. It is aimed squarely at children and families, and the staff keep the demonstrations running throughout the day.
It makes an easy pairing with the neighbouring Oceanário for a full day in Parque das Nações, particularly in wet weather. Older visitors without children may find it pitched young, but the building itself and the rotating temporary exhibitions are usually worth an hour or two.
