Shopping is not the main reason to visit the Azores, but the city has enough to keep you busy. The old-town streets between Praça do Município and the market hold small shops selling local produce — Azorean tea (from the only tea plantation in Europe, at Gorreana), liqueurs, cheeses, and the distinctive black-and-yellow pottery. For everyday shopping, the Parque Atlântico mall has a full hypermarket and most major chains. Centre shops are generally open 09:00–12:30 and 14:00–18:30 on weekdays, 09:00–13:00 on Saturdays, and closed Sundays.
