Ponta Delgada's cafe culture is strong — locals take coffee seriously, and a bica (espresso) at a pastelaria counter is the standard mid-morning ritual. The best cafes cluster around Praça do Município and the streets running back from the marina. Come evening, the area around the Marina Ponta Delgada draws a younger crowd to its waterfront bars.
Look out for the local liqueurs made from the Azores' abundant passion fruit (maracujá) and the sweet Graciosa brandy. Azorean wines — particularly from the Biscoitos appellation on Terceira — are worth trying, though the local cerveja (Super Bock or Sagres) is what most people are drinking.
