Viana do Castelo is served by regular trains on the Minho line from Porto Campanhã. The journey takes around an hour and a half; trains run several times a day. From Lisbon, the fastest option is to travel to Porto by high-speed Alfa Pendular and transfer.
By road, the A28 motorway runs from Porto to Viana, about 75 kilometres. The drive takes under an hour in normal traffic. From Spain, Viana is close to the Galician border — Vigo is about 90 kilometres north on the A55/AG-57. There is no commercial airport in Viana; the nearest is Francisco Sá Carneiro Airport in Porto.
