The regional history and archaeology collection traces human presence in the Maramureș area from prehistoric times through the medieval and early modern periods. The archaeology galleries display finds from Dacian, Roman, and medieval settlements, while upstairs sections cover the region's Hungarian, Romanian, and German-Saxon communities and their coexistence across centuries. The mining heritage gets significant attention — this was one of the most important gold and silver mining districts in Central Europe from the Middle Ages onward.
