Constanța eats a mix of Romanian, Greek, Turkish and Tatar — the inheritance of a Black Sea port. Fish (sturgeon, guvizi, mackerel) and saramură (grilled fish with a brine and chilli marinade) appear on most local menus. Tatar plăcintă (savoury pastries) and suberek (fried meat pies) are sold on every other street corner of the old town. The wines of Murfatlar, the celebrated vineyard inland from the city, are widely available and reward exploration.
