The Grădina Botanică sits on the high ground at the northern edge of the city, a 20-minute taxi ride from the centre. At around 18 hectares it is among the larger botanical gardens in Romania, with greenhouses for tropical plants, a Japanese garden, rose collection, and a stretch of restored steppe vegetation typical of the lower Danube plain.
The site adjoins a small zoo and a wooded park, which together make for a long walk well away from the steelworks side of town. From the upper paths you get views down toward the Siret and Danube rivers meeting south of the city — one of the few places where you can see Galați's geography clearly.
