Getting Around

Central Galați is small and walkable. The Faleza, Domnească Street, and most of the museums and churches lie within a 20-minute walk of each other. For longer trips — to the botanical garden, the steelworks suburbs, or the train station — the city's trolleybus and bus network is cheap and reasonably frequent, though signage is mostly in Romanian only.

Taxis are inexpensive and easy to flag down or book by phone, and Bolt operates in the city as in most of Romania. If you are heading out to the Danube Delta or up to Iași, a rental car gives the most flexibility, but renting in Galați itself is limited — most travellers pick up cars in Bucharest or Iași.
