Galați is not a tourist city and makes no pretence otherwise. What it offers is a sprawling Danube waterfront, a handful of 19th-century churches and civic buildings, and the strange industrial sublime of one of southeastern Europe's largest steel plants on the horizon. A day is plenty. Walk the Faleza promenade, climb up into the old centre around Domnească Street, see the Sfânta Precista fortified church, and look in on the small but interesting Museum of Visual Arts.
