Getting There

Galați has no commercial airport in service — the small Galați Airport closed for passenger flights years ago. The nearest options are Bacău (BCM) about 2.5 hours north by road and Iași (IAS) about three hours north. Bucharest's Otopeni is around four hours by road or train.

The train station is in the north of the city and connects to Bucharest (about 4–5 hours) and to Iași via Bârlad. The bus station next door has more frequent connections to Brăila (40 minutes), Tulcea (2.5 hours) for the Danube Delta, and across the border to Chișinău in Moldova. Long-distance coaches also run to Constanța and to Iași.

A car ferry crosses the Danube to the village of I.C. Brătianu on the south bank, from where a road heads down toward the Danube Delta. There is no road bridge over the Danube at Galați itself.
