Crama Sibiul Vechi (Old Sibiu Wine Cellar) is the city's most atmospheric traditional restaurant, set in a barrel-vaulted cellar beneath the old city. It serves Romanian home cooking at its most solid: sarmale with polenta and sour cream, grilled mici, pork dishes with pickles. The wine list leans toward Transylvanian reds — try a Feteasca Neagra from the Dealu Mare region.
The interior, with its whitewashed brick arches and wooden furniture, fills up fast on weekend evenings. Portions are large and prices remain reasonable by Western European standards. Good for groups.
