In an old townhouse on the main square, the Maramureș Ethnographic Museum gathers traditional clothing, ceramics, woodwork, woven cloth, and farming tools from across one of the most distinctive folk regions in Europe. The pieces are arranged by trade — the weaver's loom, the potter's wheel, the embroidered shirts of the highland villages — and by village, so you can compare the carved gates of Bârsana with those of Botiza. A useful primer before driving out into the valleys.
