Maramureș Village Museum

Open-air museum of traditional Maramureș wooden houses

Address Strada Dobăieș 40, Sighetu Marmației

On the outskirts of Sighet, the Muzeul Satului — the Maramureș Village Museum — is an open-air collection of about thirty traditional houses, barns, churches and water-mills moved from villages across the Maramureș region and reassembled here. The buildings are dated from the 17th to the early 20th century. Walking through, you see the high carved gates, the steep wooden-shingle roofs, the simple interiors lined with embroidered cloth, and the household saints' icons on the walls. An efficient way to see Maramureș vernacular architecture without driving out into the villages.
