Anton Scudier Central Park

Anton Scudier Central Park is the largest of the central parks, a long green strip running south from Victory Square along the eastern bank of the Bega Canal. The park was laid out in the late 19th century as the Habsburg administration converted the old fortress glacis into public space.

Mature horse chestnuts, plane trees and lindens shade the avenues. The park contains the city's small zoological garden, an open-air amphitheatre that hosts summer concerts, a children's playground and several busts of Romanian and Banat-Swabian cultural figures. The riverside walk along the Bega is the most pleasant way to cross between the cathedral end of Victory Square and the Iulius Mall complex at the southern edge of the centre.
