Getting There

Timisoara has the best air connections in western Romania. Traian Vuia International Airport sits 12 kilometres east of the city and is served by Wizz Air, Ryanair and several legacy carriers, with direct flights to most major Western European cities — London Luton, Munich, Frankfurt, Brussels, Vienna, Rome, Madrid and Paris, plus an extensive network within Romania. Bus 4E runs from the airport to the central railway station in about 30 minutes.

The train is the easiest overland option. Direct trains run from Bucharest (around 9 hours, sleeper service overnight), Cluj-Napoca (6 hours), Budapest (6 hours via Arad), and Vienna (10 hours). The central station, Timisoara Nord, is a 15-minute walk north-west of Cetate. Long-distance buses leave from the bus station next to the railway station, with services across the Banat and to Hungary and Serbia.
