Intermezzo on Union Square is one of the city's most consistent kitchens — Italian-leaning rather than Romanian, with a focus on housemade pasta, wood-oven pizza and a respectable list of Italian wines. The dining room is in a vaulted ground-floor space below one of the Baroque palaces on the square.
The pasta is made in house each day and the dough rests overnight, which is unusual at this price point in Romania. The pizzas are wood-fired and credible. The terrace on Union Square is the natural choice on warm evenings. Reservations advisable; closed Mondays.
