Fabric Water Tower

The Fabric Water Tower (Turnul de Apa Fabric) is a tall slim brick tower built in 1914 to provide hydraulic pressure to the factories and houses of the eastern industrial district. The form is austere — a tapering brick shaft with a small ornamental crown — and the building is one of the best examples of utilitarian industrial architecture in the city.

The tower stopped supplying water in the 1970s and stood empty for decades. It was recently restored and converted into a small cultural venue, with an exhibition space on the lower floors and a viewing platform at the top. The interior steel staircase climbs through the original 18-metre water cylinder, which has been partly preserved as a sculptural object in the middle of the tower.
