Military Casino

The Military Casino sits on King Michael I Boulevard, opposite Liberty Square — a Renaissance-Revival palace from 1885 designed by the Viennese architects Helmer and Fellner (the same firm responsible for the Opera). It served as the officers' social club for the Habsburg garrison and continues today as a military officers' association building, with a concert hall and exhibition rooms on the upper floors.

The building's restoration in the 2010s reopened the historic ballroom and several reception rooms to occasional public access — chamber concerts in particular use the building. The Renaissance-style facade, with its heavy rusticated lower floor and arched windows above, is one of the more sober but elegant buildings on the central boulevard.
