Serbian Orthodox Cathedral

The Serbian Orthodox Cathedral faces the Catholic Dome across Union Square, built in the same Baroque idiom in 1746 — slightly smaller, a single tower, and brightly painted in pale yellow with white trim. The building reflects the long-standing Serbian community of the Banat, which Habsburg policy actively encouraged in the 18th century.

The interior is densely decorated in the Eastern Orthodox style, with a tall gilded iconostasis dividing the nave from the altar and 18th-century icons by Constantin Daniel and Pavel Đurković. Adjacent buildings — the Serbian Bishop's Palace and the Serbian Vicariate — extend the Baroque complex along the eastern side of Union Square. The cathedral remains the seat of the Serbian Orthodox eparchy of Timisoara.
