Northern Fleet Naval Museum

Comprehensive collection on the history of Russia's Arctic navy

This museum traces the Northern Fleet from its founding in 1933 through Arctic convoy operations of World War II, the Cold War submarine arms race, and the modern day. Photographs, weapons, uniforms, models of every major ship class, and personal effects of admirals and sailors fill several rooms.

A scale model of the K-141 Kursk submarine and an exhibit on its 2000 loss are among the most affecting displays. The atmosphere is sober and proud rather than triumphal, and the museum is genuinely informative if you have any interest in naval history. Closed Mondays.
