Murmansk Oceanarium

World's northernmost oceanarium, with performing Arctic seals

Opened in 1996 in a circular building on the shore of Lake Semyonovskoye, this is the only oceanarium north of the Arctic Circle and one of very few facilities in the world to keep and train Arctic seals — harp seals, grey seals, and the unusual ringed seal of the Barents Sea.

Shows run daily and last about 40 minutes. The animals were originally taken from research programmes and rehab centres rather than the wild, and the establishment doubles as a working veterinary research facility on Arctic pinnipeds. It's a small place, very popular with families, and tickets are cheap.
