Perm Central Mosque

The Perm Central Mosque, built in 1902–1903 in the former Tatar district of the city, is the oldest mosque in the city and one of the most architecturally distinctive buildings in Perm's centre. The building combines Central Asian and Russian architectural elements — a minaret alongside a bulbous dome, rendered in pale brick with ornamental detailing that reflects the multicultural character of the Ural region.

The mosque is an active place of worship and the centre of Perm's Muslim community, which is substantial: the Tatar and Bashkir populations of the Ural region have been settled here for centuries. Visitors are welcome outside prayer times; modest dress is required. The surrounding streets retain some of the character of the former Tatar quarter, with older wooden houses and small shops.
