Uda-Selenga Confluence

The Uda flows into the larger Selenga right at the foot of Ulan-Ude — the geographic reason a city grew here in the first place. The bridge between the two banks gives the most photogenic view in the city, with the Odigitrievsky Cathedral above the confluence and the broad Selenga heading north towards Lake Baikal.

It is a quiet spot, easily reached on foot from the centre, and especially atmospheric in early morning when the river mist rises off the water. A small embankment park along the Uda has been gradually upgraded.
