The most striking house on the western side of Námestie Majstra Pavla, easy to pick out because of its tall stepped gable and the rich sgraffito decoration on the facade. It dates from the late 16th century and is named after the Thurzo family, the wealthiest of the Spiš merchant clans, who along with the Fuggers of Augsburg controlled the European copper trade for a generation.
It is one of the best-preserved examples of Spiš Renaissance domestic architecture and gives you a sense of the wealth that flowed through this town when it was a free royal city on the Via Magna trade route.
