Kamniška Bistrica

Alpine valley of cold karst springs, forest paths, and trailheads north of Kamnik.

Kamniška Bistrica is the mountain valley north of Kamnik, where the river rises from cold karst springs below the high peaks. It is a quieter, greener complement to Velika Planina: less iconic, but very good for a half-day of walking, picnicking, and looking up at the walls of the Kamnik-Savinja Alps.

The spring area is the easy stop. From there, short paths lead into the Predaselj gorge, while longer routes climb toward serious mountain ground. Public transport exists but is infrequent, so check the return before relying on it.
