Stara Fuzina

Old iron-working village, now home of the Bohinj alpine dairy museum

A short walk north of Ribcev Laz across pastures, Stara Fuzina ("Old Foundry") was once a centre of small-scale iron-making, the slag heaps long since reclaimed by grass. Today it is a quiet stone village of hayracks and renovated farmhouses, and a starting point for walks into the Mostnica Gorge and the Voje valley beyond. The Alpine Dairy Farming Museum on the main street is small, well-laid-out, and gives a useful introduction to the cheesemaking tradition that still shapes the local landscape.

Several of the best gostilne in the area are here, including Mihovc and Pri Hrvatu, both serving generous portions of local Slovenian food at sensible prices.
