Getting There

From Ljubljana, the easiest way is to drive — the route through Radovljica and Bled to Bohinjska Bistrica takes about 75 minutes and the road is good all the way. Buses (Arriva Alpetour) run every couple of hours from Ljubljana coach station to Bohinjska Bistrica and on to Ribcev Laz, with an extra change in Bled on some services. The journey takes a little over two hours.

Trains from Ljubljana reach Bohinjska Bistrica via Jesenice. It is slower than the bus (around three hours including the change at Jesenice) but the second half of the line, the Bohinj Railway, is one of the prettiest in Slovenia. From the station it is a short bus ride or six-kilometre taxi to the lake.

The nearest international airports are Ljubljana (60 km), Klagenfurt in Austria (110 km) and Trieste in Italy (160 km).
