Lent is the old riverside quarter of Maribor, a stretch of quays and warehouse buildings along the left bank of the Drava that has been restored into the city's most animated social space. The name comes from the medieval Slovene word for the riverside landing area. Today it's a pedestrian promenade lined with bars, restaurants, and gallery spaces, and in summer it hosts the enormous Lent International Summer Festival, one of the largest outdoor cultural events in Slovenia.
The architecture along Lent is a mix of old warehouses, patrician townhouses, and the occasional medieval tower. The Old Bridge (Stari most) connects Lent to the Studenci district on the north bank. Looking back from the bridge towards the old town, the view of church towers and castle above the riverfront is Maribor at its most photogenic. The promenade works in any season — quieter in winter, when the city feels more like itself.
