The Savinja and Šalek valley region is about 80 km northeast of Ljubljana and 70 km northwest of Maribor. A car is strongly recommended — public transport options are limited, particularly into the Logar Valley.
By car from Ljubljana, take the A2 motorway toward Maribor and exit at Šentrupert, then follow signs for Mozirje and Solčava. The drive takes around 90 minutes. From Maribor, follow the A1 south and switch to regional roads through Šoštanj toward Velenje, then north into the mountains.
There are bus connections from Celje to Mozirje and Velenje on weekdays, but no public transport into Logarska Dolina itself. A hire car from Ljubljana or Maribor is the practical solution for anyone who wants to explore the valley and the hiking areas.
