The Savinja Alps and the valleys beneath them are one of Slovenia's finest mountain landscapes. The Logar Valley (Logarska Dolina) is considered one of the most beautiful alpine valleys in Europe, and in 2009 the wider Solčavsko area won the European Destination of Excellence Award.
The Solčava Panoramic Road offers spectacular vistas and stops for local food tasting. Natural parks at Robanov Kot, Matkov Kot, and Golte provide excellent hiking. The Rinka Waterfall, dropping from the head of the Logar Valley, and Snežna Jama (Snow Cave) are the headline natural attractions. The Savinja River itself offers whitewater rafting and fly fishing.
In the valley below, the town of Velenje has the Coal Mining Museum and, improbably, the world's largest statue of Tito. The Mozirski Gaj flower garden and the Topolšica Spa round out the gentler attractions. In winter, skiing at Golte is the main draw.
