The Soča Valley is not directly connected to the main Slovenian road network. The main approaches are: from the north via the Vršič Pass (open May to October only) from Kranjska Gora; from the west from Italy through Gorizia/Nova Gorica; or from the south via the Tolmin area.
Ljubljana is about three hours by car. The nearest airport with regular international flights is Trieste (45 minutes from the Tolmin area), which has connections to several European cities. Ljubljana airport is about 130 kilometres.
There is limited bus service to Bovec and Kobarid from Ljubljana and from Tolmin, but a car is strongly recommended for exploring the valley and its side gorges.
