The Soča Valley divides naturally into active pursuits on the water and reflective pursuits on the hillsides. White-water rafting is the valley's primary sport — the Soča is one of Europe's best rivers for it, and commercial operators in Bovec run daily trips. Kayaking, canyoning, and paragliding are all well-established.
For history, the Kobarid Museum is unmissable — one of the finest First World War museums anywhere. The Italian Charnel House above Kobarid and Kluže Fortress north of Bovec give physical context to the conflict.
For landscape, the Soča Trail follows the impossibly blue-green river through the national park. The Boka Waterfall is the highest in Slovenia. Drive or walk the Vršič Pass in clear weather for views over the Julian Alps.
