The Soča River is one of the best white-water rivers in Europe. Its glacially fed current is fast, cold, and consistently graded — rapids range from gentle Grade II stretches suitable for families to serious Grade IV and V sections requiring technical skills. The standard commercial rafting run between Bovec and Trnovo ob Soči takes two to three hours and includes several good rapids without being dangerously technical.
Numerous operators in Bovec offer rafting, kayaking, and canyoning. The season runs from April to October, with May and June being particularly good when snowmelt swells the river. The river's colour intensifies in summer when the water is clearer. Kayakers come from across Europe to paddle the Soča; there are dedicated put-in points and portages for independent paddlers.
