The parish church of Santa Catalina stands in the main square of the old town, a solid 17th-century structure with the plain whitewashed exterior typical of Andalucian churches of this period. It is not as ornate as the great churches of Seville or Cádiz, but it is the social and spiritual centre of the town, and on feast days and during Semana Santa it is the focal point of processions through the surrounding streets.
The interior is modest but atmospheric — dark wood, tiled floors, a retablo in the Baroque manner. The church has been restored several times and is in good repair. Sunday mass here gives you a clear sense of how much of Conil's social life still revolves around the parish.
