Estepona eats well for a town its size. The fish market at the marina ensures fresh seafood, and the chiringuitos on the beach are the best place for grilled fish and espetos de sardinas (sardines on beach cane skewers, a Málaga speciality). The old town has unpretentious tapas bars around Plaza de las Flores that serve the usual Andalusian repertoire — jamón, boquerones (anchovies), tortilla, patatas bravas. The marina strip is more tourist-oriented but has a handful of places that cook the local catch competently. Avoid Sunday evenings in low season, when much of the restaurant strip closes.
