Granada's best shopping is in the Alcaicería — the reconstructed Moorish silk market near the cathedral — and along Calle Elvira and Calderería Nueva in the Albaicín. These streets specialise in handcrafted goods: marquetry (taracea) boxes and furniture inlaid with geometric patterns, hand-painted ceramics, silk goods, and leatherwork. The marquetry tradition is genuinely local and the best pieces are worthwhile.
The main modern shopping area runs along Calle Mesones, Gran Vía de Colón, and Calle Recogidas. For food, the Mercado San Agustín near the cathedral has fresh produce, jamón, cheese, and local specialities.
