Plaza de España

The main square of Grazalema, the focal point of village life: a small triangular plaza ringed by bars, the 18th-century parish church of La Aurora, and a stepped fountain whose water comes directly from springs in the sierra above. The bar terraces are filled from late morning until lights-out, and the locals have not given the square over to tourists.

Order a coffee, an oloroso, or a beer with tapa included — the local cheese (queso payoyo from goat and ewe milk, made in the village) is famous and worth a plate. The square is the obvious starting point for the walking circuit of Grazalema's narrow lanes.
