When to Go

The shoulder months — late March to early June, and September to October — are the best time for Grazalema. Wildflowers carpet the sierra in spring; autumn colours come to the chestnut groves of Benamahoma in October. Walking is pleasant, the heat is bearable, and the village is less crowded than in summer.

July and August are hot and the village fills with weekenders from Cádiz and Seville. November to February are cold and very wet — Grazalema receives more rain than anywhere else in Spain, and afternoon mist can swallow the sierra. The Pinsapar and other permit walks are closed during the griffon vulture nesting season (June to October).
