When to Go

Spring (March to May) and autumn (September to November) are the best times to visit. Temperatures are mild, the countryside is green or gold, and the village is quiet enough to walk the cave streets without crowds.

Summer brings heat that can reach 40°C in the surrounding countryside, though the cave streets themselves stay noticeably cooler in the shade of the overhangs. July and August attract more day-trippers from the coast, and weekends can feel crowded for such a small village.

In winter the village is largely empty and atmospheric, but some of the smaller bars and restaurants may keep reduced hours. December brings Christmas lights strung along the cave streets, which look particularly good at dusk.

The Fiesta de la Virgen del Carmen in July is the main local festival, with music, food stalls, and dancing in the square.
