Festival de Pollença

Pollença's summer classical music festival, founded in 1962, draws serious orchestras and soloists to perform in the cloister of Sant Domingo — an open-air venue with extraordinary acoustics. Concerts run through July and August.

Tickets sell out for the marquee names but are usually obtainable for the less famous evenings. The atmosphere is intimate and informal by classical-festival standards; locals turn out in summer linens and the cloister fills with about 600 people.

A story
The first edition of the Festival de Pollença in 1962 was conducted by Eugene Ormandy and the Philadelphia Orchestra, who happened to be on tour in Spain. Yehudi Menuhin, Mstislav Rostropovich and Jordi Savall have all played editions since.
