Vitoria's 19th-century expansion below the old town: a tidy grid of bourgeois apartment buildings with cast-iron miradores, broad pavements, and arcaded streets. Calle Dato, the pedestrianised main shopping street, runs south from Plaza de la Virgen Blanca to the railway station.
This is where most of the city's good shops, the better pintxo bars, and the Iradier theatre live. Quieter side streets like Postas and Florida have a string of pavement cafés that fill at weekends.
