Puerto de Vueltas

The fishing harbour of Vueltas is the working heart of the Valle Gran Rey community. In the mornings, the small fleet returns with the night's catch — vieja, cherne, sama, and various smaller species — and the fish is sold directly from the boats or at the simple fish stalls beside the quay. It is a modest operation, nothing like the big commercial ports of Tenerife, and the scale gives it an immediacy that larger fishing ports lack.

The harbour is also the departure point for whale and dolphin watching excursions. The waters around La Gomera are rich in cetaceans — pilot whales are resident year-round, sperm whales pass through regularly, and bottlenose dolphins are common. Several operators run three- to four-hour trips from the quay. The harbour is also where the inter-island ferries to Tenerife (Los Cristianos) depart, typically several times daily.
