The resort itself is easily walkable — end to end is about 90 minutes along the Avenida de las Playas — and most visitors do not need transport for the central beach area. For the rest of the island, hire a car: Lanzarote is a small island (60 km long, 25 wide) with quiet, well-maintained roads, and the freedom to follow a César Manrique itinerary or pull off into the volcanic countryside is the difference between a beach holiday and a real visit. All the major rental firms operate from the airport, and prices in low season are among the cheapest in Europe.
Local buses (the orange-and-white intermunicipal buses, run by Intercity) are reliable and cheap, with regular services to Arrecife, Playa Blanca, Costa Teguise and Yaiza. The main bus stop is on Calle Princesa Ico in the centre of the resort. Taxis are plentiful at the main hotels and on Avenida de las Playas; meter fares are reasonable. Avoid hiring scooters and quad bikes unless you are very confident — Lanzarote drivers can be impatient.
